If Rick Perry wanted a slam dunk political gift, his former attorney general and now governor delivered it. As I wrote more than a week ago, Gov. Greg Abbott shouldn’t feed the conspiracy theorists who believe that the U.S. military needs watching as they conduct exercises in Texas later this year. Since then, the issue has exploded into a national embarrassment.
So does Perry toss a lifeline to Abbott, a political ally against the Obama Administration? Nope, he goes after Abbott full blast. What a difference a run for the White House makes.
“It’s OK to question your government. I do it on a regular basis. But the military is something else,” said Perry, an Air Force veteran, as he prepared to speak to the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. “Our military is quite trustworthy. The civilian leadership, you can always question that, but not the men and women in uniform.”
As half-baked as Abbott’s “concerns” are, Perry knows he wasn’t questioning the grunts but some weird and broader black helicopter conspiracy involving the civilian leadership and fueled by the Internet ravings of martial law conspiracy theorist du jour Alex Jones. … [visit site to read more]
